STEMCELL Technologies
This installment of Supplier Spotlight® is on STEMCELL Technologies – who specialize in developing cell culture media, cell separation systems, instruments and other reagents for use in life sciences research across the basic to translational research continuum.
What is your company’s mission?
At STEMCELL Technologies™, science is our foundation, our purpose and our culture. With deep roots in the scientific community, our mission is to advance scientific knowledge globally by providing high quality, innovative reagents, tools and services that enable scientific research. Offering more than 2,500 products and services in over 70 countries, we support discoveries in immunology, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, gene and cell therapy research, stem cell research, immunotherapy and treatments for cancer and other diseases.
What products and services do you offer?
STEMCELL specializes in developing cell culture media, cell separation technologies, instruments and other reagents for use in life sciences research across the basic to translational research continuum.
On the Scientist.com platform, STEMCELL offers a wide range of fresh and frozen human primary cells, including leukopaks, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) such as lymphocytes, monocytes and dendritic cells, and hematopoietic progenitors that can be used in a variety of cell-based assays. Custom products are available for non-standard cell types or collections with specific requirements. More information on STEMCELL’s ethically sourced human primary cells is available online.
STEMCELL’s Contract Assay Services department, a contract research organization (CRO), supports researchers by combining specialized STEMCELL media and reagents with the practical knowledge of our in-house scientists to provide both standardized and customized in vitro assay services.
What problems does your organization solve?
Our products and services are designed and developed by highly trained, world-class scientists to streamline research protocols, reduce experimental variability and increase the accuracy of results. We support entire experimental workflows, from cell sourcing and isolation to characterization, expansion, differentiation, maintenance and storage, and couple our products with exceptional product and scientific support to educate, troubleshoot and collaborate with researchers. We also support customers by providing the documentation required to meet specific institutional requirements, such as supplier approval for ease of procurement.
What are the most innovative tools and technologies that you offer?
STEMCELL is invested in supplying products and services that meet high quality standards, with the goal of exceeding customer expectations while providing the best service and support. Unlike some other cell suppliers, we have over 20 years of expertise in developing cell isolation and cell culture reagents to support every stage of your research workflow.
One of many innovative tools is our popular, column-free EasySep™ platform, the fastest and easiest cell separation technology available for the isolation of untouched, highly purified, functional immune cells, including T cells, B cells and monocytes. For additional time savings, EasySep™ can be fully automated with RoboSep™. Our ImmunoCult™ products are designed to ensure optimal activation, expansion and differentiation of immune cells.
What are your competitive advantages?
Research success and integrity come first. If a product doesn’t work, a typical vendor might simply send a new one. We take a different approach to technical support and work with researchers to make sure they have the right product for their needs.
To ensure researchers have a reliable source of human primary cells, STEMCELL offers products from recallable donors from a robust network of donor centers. Importantly, entire batches can be put on hold while researchers test the cells for their applications. To reduce lead time, we can start the collection and manufacturing process in advance, or our Contract Assay Services department can provide researchers with the data they need using standardized or customized assays.
Who are your clients?
Our customers include scientists around the world, from both academia and industry alike. We continue to closely partner with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, government and academic life science organizations across the globe, helping to ensure that their needs are met. We have supported over 35 clinical trials around the globe, with the majority in the United States.
What new products and services are you developing in 2020?
Our customers’ needs are constantly evolving, and STEMCELL is dedicated to developing and providing the products and services to meet them. For example, our human primary cell portfolio * continues to expand with standard products, including immune cell subsets, leukocyte reduction system (LRS) cones and additional leukopak options. In addition, custom products are available for non-standard cell types, collections with specific requirements, different formats, volumes, sizes and more.
Where are your laboratories and offices located?
STEMCELL employs more than 1,400 people globally and has facilities in nine countries. Three locations are in North America: our headquarters in Vancouver, Canada, a Sales support office in Cambridge, MA and a distribution center in Seattle, WA. We also have three offices in Europe and five in Asia Pacific to provide comprehensive services to our customers in these areas. In addition to direct sales and support in more than 30 countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, we work with a network of distributors to reach and service all other customers across the globe.
