2021 Year in Review

Scientist on January 17, 2022

There is no denying that 2021 was marked by resilience against unforeseen difficulties, adapting to new circumstances and learning to find the silver lining despite all of these challenges. However, every challenge presents the opportunity to either shrink in fear or grow in strength as we strive to overcome it. Our mission here at Scientist.com has always been to empower and connect scientists worldwide and help make it possible to cure all human disease by 2050, and with everything happening in our world today, we are now reminded of this mission more than ever.

We are truly grateful to every individual who has played a part in helping us further our mission and for being part of our Scientist.com community. We are fortunate to have experienced significant growth in 2021, thanks in large part to these partnerships, so we decided to look back and reflect on the progress we have made throughout the year.

More than 8,500 new accounts were created on the platform this year. That means there are 8,500 more people who are now part of the Scientist.com community and have access to the tools and resources needed to drive innovation in the new year.

Among all the research areas that our users placed orders in, these were the most prominent in 2021: Human Biological Samples acquisition, DNA & RNA, Protein Sciences, Cell Culture & Characterization and Antibodies. To reflect this fact, we launched a webinar series entitled Cutting Edge Conversations, which takes a deep dive into specific research areas and discusses the challenges and innovations surrounding them. If you’re interested in checking out the webinar series recordings or want to see some more category-related content, head over to our blog!

One of our goals at Scientist.com is to make faster science a reality. Our vast network of expert suppliers helps us acheive this goal by swiftly responding to user requests. We are happy to share that this year our platform saw a 21% faster average response rate to user requests! To put that into perspective, on average, it only takes 6 days from a user request to reach purchase order.

In 2021, the Scientist.com family expanded by 4. We are extremely delighted to announce our acquisitions from this past year, which include InsideScientific (science-based content, including webinars and podcasts), Notch8 (software and app development services) and BiopharmCatalyst (biotech investor services). Our team grew to a total of 113 employees in 2021, each one bringing their own unique talents to the Scientist.com family. Not only will these acquisitions bring a diverse array of skill and expertise to our team, but this will also allow our global network of researchers to gain access to additional resources and services. These recent additions follow the successful acquisition of HealthEconomics.Com in late 2020HealthEconomics.Com, the world’s leading ConnectedCommunity in the Value, Evidence and Access space, proved to be a valuable member of the Scientist.com family of companies in 2021.

This year we created an AI-powered Disease Model Finder that now has over 3500 PDX models as well as 500+ non-PDX models, including patient-derived cells, CDX, cell lines and organoids. This new offering helps researchers search, compare and purchase the appropriate models for drug discovery projects with ease and efficiency. If you’re curious to learn more about our Disease Model Finder, read this blog post to discover how the DMF is changing the world of oncology research.

We are very excited to announce that we created a new product marketplace with 10 million reagents, consumables and other products. This offering will be fully functional and available for use in 2022, so keep an eye out for its launch!

We are happy to announce that in 2021, 70% of signed suppliers saw an increase in orders, which means that our platform is truly helping to facilitate the furthering of scientific research worldwide. If you are interested to learn more about how you can increase orders and brand awareness in the new year, check out our Supplier Marketing Program to discover how your company can generate new leads in 2022!

More exciting news: 222 new scientific services were purchased for the first time in 2021. We love to be able to offer services in new research areas.

Though the future seems to be one big question mark, one thing is for sure, and that is that we will continue to serve the needs of our platform users and the world at large in whatever way we can. We strive to aid researchers on their quest towards discovery and innovation, which we think can change the world for the better. We thank you all for playing a role in this larger goal, and we look forward to our continued collaboration into 2022 as we take one step closer to achieving it!
